Soybean meal is the largest source of protein in all parts of world. This meal has the best balance of essential amino acids and it contains high level of lysine. Lysine is one of the limiting amino acids for growth and when lysine be used in diets, greatly reduces the need for lysine supplements. This meal is also important in terms of having vitamins. One of the most important unti-nutritional factors of this meal is antitrypsin, which eliminate the diastase effect of trypsin during the hydrolysis of protein.

All types of amino acids in this meal are quite desirable for poultry. When it combines with corn or sorghum, the only limiting amino acid will be methionine. The amount of protein in soybean meal varies, due to the variety of soybean or processing conditions of soybean for its fat extraction. Soybean meals that have high level of protein is made from peeled products, while soybean meals (44% crude protein) that have low level of protein contain shells, so these meals have cruder fiber and less metabolizable energy.

It should be noted that the high or level of protein in meal depends on the soybeans; so the amount of protein in different soybean is 30%-50%.
