Broiler grower feed will normally be fed for 14-16 days. The transition from starter feed to grower feed will involve a change of texture from crumbs to pellets. There is continuing need for a good quality grower feed to maximize performance.

Essentially grower feed contains a protein content that is between 16- 28% but has less calcium than regular layer feed. in an egg shell, grower feed supports the continuing growth of your teenage chickens without bombarding them with unnecessary vitamins and minerals that are more suited for fully grown laying hens.

Grower feeds should be containing a mixture of rich food such as corn, soybean meal, soybeans and more supplements including vitamins.

Layer chicks get chick starter feed up to six weeks of age. Chick starter feed is normally around 20% protein. They still need higher protein but they are growing less rapidly than the broiler chicks. At six weeks they are then changed over to grower feed which is 17-18% protein until about twenty weeks.

To achieve the best rapid growth and healthy, it is necessary that their nutritional need is well met. The diet of chickens should contain sufficient energy and protein, variety of minerals and useful vitamins, fatty acids and essential amino acids for birds to have rapid and favorable growth.

In addition to providing a proper diet, the environmental factors and the hygiene of the hall or chicken coops should be controlled; so that the chickens don’t expose to diseases and problems.

Chickens usually have a good appetite and they are omnivorous. Therefore, there are many sources that can be used to feed them. But the most point for feeding chickens is its profitability. So, choosing the type of diet is very important.

conventionally bred broiler chickens: Most of the chicken available in the stores today comes from flocks that grow to market weight in about 48 days on average, using fewer natural resources – therefore more sustainably. Compared to 25 years ago, today’s chickens now require seven percent less feed per pound to grow. Considering our national broiler flock eats about 57 million tons of feed per year – that is a lot of resources saved.

Slow growth/Heritage broiler chickens: “Slower-growing” chickens or “Heritage breeds” are chickens that can take almost twice as long to reach market weight – about 81 days typically – because they do not convert feed to muscle as quickly. Because of this, these breeds require more feed, fuel, water and land per pound of meat to sustain their growth. As such, these products are typically 3x more expensive than their counterparts.
